Date model: Device-local date (YYYY-MM-DD) at the moment the daily is seeded. A late-evening game in one timezone is not the same puzzle as the same clock time elsewhere.

How a local daily works

  1. The page reads the device’s local date and seeds the puzzle with YYYY-MM-DD.
  2. Solving writes only to this browser’s nocharge:daily:* keys: solved date set, streak count, and the day each was solved.
  3. Practice mode runs the same rules with a random puzzle; it reads or writes no streak keys.
  4. The hub never knows that you played. There is no server request for the streak, no login, and no ranking.

What “streak” means here

A streak is a count of consecutive device-local dates on which you solved that slot. If you miss a day, the streak restarts at one the next time you solve. It is not a reward, a score, or a claim about skill; it exists only to help you see your own rhythm.

What the daily is not

  • Not a subscription, notification, or habit-coaching system. NoCharge sends no reminders.
  • Not a cross-device feature: a streak on your phone is not visible on your laptop.
  • Not a ranking: there are no leaderboards or “streak of the day” comparisons.
  • Not a claim about memory, focus, or cognitive benefit.

FAQ

What makes a NoCharge daily different from a normal game?

Nothing about the rules changes. The puzzle is chosen by the date, so everyone sees the same layout that day, and a small streak counter records how many days in a row you solved it on this device.

Do I need an account for daily streaks?

No. The streak is stored in this browser only and never synchronizes. Clearing site data or using Clear game data removes it.

Which timezone decides the daily?

The device’s local date at the moment the puzzle is generated. Late-evening play in one timezone is not the same puzzle as the same clock time in another.

How are difficulty and “solved” judged?

A daily is solved when its end condition is met by the rules of that game. Guides explain each end condition. Practice modes use the same rules without the date seed or streak.

Can I practice instead of playing the daily?

Yes. Every daily game keeps an untimed practice mode that never touches the streak. Dailies are optional; NoCharge does not pressure a return visit.
