Word Loom — an original word-game design, documented
Original name, rules, feedback model, and word list. Why NoCharge's daily word is not a trademark clone, and how the duplicate-letter rule works.
Bottom line: Word Loom is NoCharge’s own five-letter word game: its own name, its own rules (six guesses, symbol-plus-color feedback, a documented duplicate-letter cap), and its own calm word list. The guide states the duplicate rule exactly because it is the main place word puzzles get ambiguous.
What is original
- Name and art: Word Loom, orange-on-dark tiles, NoCharge palette.
- Feedback model: every tile carries a symbol (
✓ ~ ✗) and an announced label; color is secondary. - Word list: calm, common words — nature, home, music, NoCharge vocabulary. NoCharge does not claim dictionary coverage.
- Daily seeding: device-local date, stated on the daily hub.
- Streak: on-device only, no sync, no notifications.
The duplicate-letter rule
Answer MAPLE, guess POPPY: the first P matches position 3, the second P has no remaining P in the answer, so it is absent. The engine consumes the answer’s letter counts before assigning present, which is the standard interpretation — but NoCharge writes it in the guide because players will test it.
What it is not
- Not a clone of a branded puzzle: no name, trade dress, or scoreboard copying.
- Not a daily that nags: no push reminders, no “share your streak” pressure.
- Not a vocabulary claim: the word list is editorial.
Testing
Engine tests cover perfect guesses, present/absent distinctions, duplicate caps, seed stability, and daily date format. The guide’s rules section repeats the same contract; the registry review checks that the game text and guide agree.
